What Is a Backlink?

If you are new to SEO or Search Engine Optimization you may not realize the importance of backlinks.  Backlinks are links from other sites “back” to your site.  These links give your web site clout online which means that the search engines will consider you an authority if you have a large number of links to your site from other (good) web sites.  In the past companies would pay to have links blasted to spam sites all around the Internet.

Google Is No longer Falling for Old Tricks!

While this worked for a number of years, this is no longer the case.  With Google’s various algorithm changes such as Penguin and Panda, it is becoming more difficult to trick search engines.  It is now more important than ever to have only legitimate sites link back to your site as well as post quality content at all times on your site.

Your web site can be penalized by Google and other large search engines if your links show up on sites considered to promote spam content.  It is also a good idea to avoid keyword stuffing as Google is now quick to penalize you for this type of behavior as well.

Using Social Media Sites to Get Backlinks to Your Site

So you are probably asking the question, how can I quickly build backlinks to my site organically?  The answer or at least part of the answer is Social Media!  With social media you can instantly increase the number of backlinks to your site.

Follow the steps below to organically increase links to your site:

1)      Sign up for multiple Social Media networks – This is vitally important to a successful web site. Do not stop at just Facebook and Twitter.  Sign up for Google+, Pinterest, Delicious, LinkedIn, TwitPix, and as many other social media networks as possible.

2)      Include your link in your profile – Almost all Social Media sites allow you to include your web site’s URL in the profile of each site.  This instantly gives you a link back to your web site from a trustworthy source.

3)      Engage Your Users – Once you sign up with various Social Media networks it is important to keep your users engaged.  Posting several times per week can keep your audience interested and can help drive traffic to your web site.

Take A Ways

Following these simple steps can quickly increase the number of backlinks to your site which can in turn increase traffic to your site and increase your profits as well.  A sound Social Media strategy is one of the quickest ways to ensure success online!
